The Bürgergarten was created in a redevelopment area of Baden-Baden/Steinbach as the last link in a comprehensive redevelopment of the town centre.
The centrepiece of the new garden is a pergola with a border, which spatially reproduces the former course of the city wall. This is symbolically illustrated by a path made of sandstone polygonal slabs, which traces this relic of local history in the ground like an inlay.
A fragrant and herb garden accompanies the pergola; the beds are structured by lawn paths, which connect the adjoining fruit meadow with the new part of the garden.
The planting of old varieties of vines and roses, as well as herbs (lavender, thyme, rosemary, etc.) and woody plants such as mulberry, medlar and spice bushes, establishes a relationship to the medieval herb garden. Formal ingratiation, on the other hand, was avoided.
