Before the reconstruction, the Lauter was built up with embankment walls on both sides. As part of the urban development and new construction on the right bank, the watercourse was given more room for development on one side, so that the bank wall could give way to a near-natural embankment. A berm was built in front of the remaining wall on the left bank, whose herbaceous planting with bank perennials conceals the unsightly bank structure. Unfortunately, the development of the river itself can only be permitted to a very limited extent in such a confined space. Therefore, the banks were secured in a near-natural way using engineering-biological construction methods. After a certain period of development, plants take over the permanent protection with their roots. A path along the water with seating facilities enables an intensive experience at the water. On a small wooden deck one can linger without hindering the through traffic. The various hydraulic engineering elements on the banks and in the near-natural bed provide structural diversity and an attractive appearance - two important concerns for urban watercourses.
