Design of Karlsplatz and Prinzengarten in the surroundings of Sigmaringen Castle and the historic Marstall. Optimisation of the cycle and footpath connection to the Danube. Optimisation of the flood protection and flood defence.
The district town Sigmaringen is picturesquely embedded in a river bend of the upper Danube. The northeastern entrance to the old town between the former princely stables and the castle was strongly influenced by car traffic was not the claim as a final link in this square sequence.
The new Karlsplatz acts as a mediator between the listed Sigmaringen Castle, the green spaces of the Prinzengarten and the Danube meadows. By relocating the Fürst-Wilhelm-Strasse in front of the historic Marstall, a spacious square with a high quality of stay is created.
Pedestrian crossings facilitate the crossing of Fürst-Wilhelm-Straße and thus the connection to the old town in the west. The currently existing historic green space in front of the Marstall is reinterpreted and retains its reference to the garden themes of the adjacent park. A permeable spatial edge around the square area in the form of cherry tree plantings along the new street layout closes the green connection between the open spaces.
