Reactivation of the former industrial Steinmüller site into a mixed inner-city quarter. Design of inner-city squares and open spaces in the vicinity of the school and culturally used Halle32, the Gummersbach campus of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the "Schwalbe Arena".
The Steinmüller era has shaped the town of Gummersbach for almost 150 years. The internationally active company was a major employer in the region and people still feel strongly connected to the industrial site today. With the future-oriented restructuring of the historic site as part of the "stadt:impuls gummersbach" project, a new era is beginning for the region.
The Kampstraße forms the start of the dynamic axis within the urban fabric. This axis forms an exciting urban sequence with different subsequences: the new planning of Heiner-Brand-Platz with the surroundings of the "Schwalbe-Arena" and the culturally, educationally and gastronomically
used Hall 32, which is also used by the Cologne University of Applied Sciences Campus Gummersbach, the inner-city area of Kampstraße and the connection to the existing pedestrian zone.
For all new planning, materials that are typical for the Steinmüllerareal are used. In addition, as a sign of remembrance of the industrial history of the Steinmüller site, a "glowing ring" made of Corten steel was positioned in a prominent location as the central distributor of the site.
