With the planned Bahnstadt West, a new urban quarter is being created that represents an extension of Opladen's city centre, which is characterised by its Wilhelminian style. The quarter is characterised by residential development as well as services, trade and commerce. In the open space, new public areas with their own identity and a high quality of stay are to be created. Here, the link to the urban quarter (nbso) on the east side of the Gleistrasse is just as important as the intertwining with the city center of Opladen.

The main idea is to create a continuous "green belt" that runs through the entire quarter. Inspired by the former railway lines running in a north-south direction, a band of open space characterized by significant rows of trees, squares, street furniture, playgrounds and linear topographical elements stretches out along the "track lines". In the area of the urbanistically important linking spaces of the station forecourt, Brückenpark and Wilhelmstraße forecourt, the ribbon interlocks in the east-west direction. In addition, there are many other connections to the existing buildings and the new courtyards.
