OVERALL CONCEPT / GUIDELINE "CITY - NATURAL SPACE"
The city of Kirn has been hit by severe floods in recent decades. Therefore, extensive flood protection measures were inevitable. Although near-natural designs or mobile protection devices were chosen for the execution, a restriction of the direct reference with the two waters crossing the city Nahe (1st order) and Hahnenbach (2nd order) could not be avoided.
With the overall concept "Life on the river in Kirn" was born in 2007 with the guiding principle "City - natural space" the basis for the rediscovery to the quality of life and stay.
There are on a watercourse length of about 8 km a total of 6 natural sections with different goals defined. There are both object-related projects for leisure, recreation and accessibility, nature conservation-based priorities, as well as water management necessary approaches.
