OVERALL CONCEPT
For the area development "Alzeyer West" and for the reduction of social problem areas, the "Integrated Urban Development Action Concept" for the program area "North of Weinheimer Landstraße" in the City of Alzey was designed a spatially coherent complex of about 3.45 ha with good existing structures and development prerequisites.
Substantive fields of action
Experience and recreation potential, sports and leisure, residential environment and public space, ecologically significant areas.
Strategic fields of action
Following target groups have been involved with activities in the context of public relations:
Target group 1 - children (kindergarten age and elementary school) among others.Target group 2 - Adolescents, young adults via outreach work, among other things
Target group 3 - Adults through discussions, integration of late repatriates and migrants.
BAUABSCHNITTE
With financial support in the federal-state program "Social City" for urban development Alzey, the realization took place in several construction phases.
Section A
Play and leisure park 'Herdry' children's playground - east side
Target group 1, toddlers or children
In connection via the street "Am Herdry" directly bordering the residential areas, with renewal of the decades-old playground this approx. 7,000 m² large open space on the east side of the plan area again became a major attraction. It was important in the conception to carefully renew and fill with new life the place under the large old shady trees in the floodplain of the Selz, which has been loved by the population for generations.
The playground offers toddlers and children the opportunity to engage in age-appropriate activities, learn through play and sharpen their senses. For the accompanying "grown-ups" seating and resting islands have been created. The former attraction of the railway became alive again with the renovation of the train and the rails.
Section B
Play and Recreation Park 'Herdry' Recreation Area - West Side
Target Group 2, Youths and Adults
The approximately 7,500 m² west side of the play and recreation park was developed for the youths and adults. The development focus is on creating quality, public outdoor recreation and recreation opportunities to lead youth from underutilized residential open space to the recreation park with attractive diversion opportunities.
Various open spaces were created with interior open trail development, light ground modeling and plantings:
Brill area with large hut and central fire pit, large meadow, smaller tabletop grills with table/bench combinations. Private access with fencing allows for controlled use.
An all-weather court with durable synthetic surface is used regardless of the season, beach volleyball court and play area adjoin in the active section.
A special highlight is the Interactive Play Area. Here, play opportunities linked by computer control are combined in a climbing combination, a spinning game and a balance game on an upbeat fall protection surface.
Fitness equipment for the outdoor area is in great demand across the generations, especially as there is a fitness trail on the Wiesenweg. Created as an active parcour, different equipment was combined on a fe¬dering surface. The location in the south-western area, somewhat protected away from the large-scale activity areas, meets the needs of users of the age group Ü 40.
A barefoot path, sunbathing lawn under trees, seating areas and shallow bank zones to the Selz, frame wooded areas round off the recreational and exercise offer with a natural experience factor and quiet aura.
The parking lot at the meadow way and sanitary containers serve at the same time the use for the allotment garden area.
Section C
Allotment garden area, intercultural gardens north of the meadow way
Target group 3, adults, late resettlers, migrants
For the approx. 20,000 m² large facility, the infrastructure for paths and supply were created.
The division of the areas (allotment garden, grave land, intercultural gardens) and further equipment was carried out by the self-organized new garden community together with the Alzey city administration.
