The original 40-hectare historic spa gardens in Bad Nauheim date back to the 1850s to 1890s and are based on the plans of Heinrich Siesmayer. Over the past 160 years, various additions, extensions and changes have been made to the park, which were initially still based on Siesmayer's plans, especially as the corresponding measures and park maintenance were the responsibility of the Siesmayer Brothers Company up to and including 1908.
In particular, however, the development after the Second World War resulted in stronger interventions and losses of individual elements, which had a drastic effect on the design.
The current park maintenance work is based on the results of a park maintenance work from 1993 and takes into account the developments that have taken place since then, especially in the course of the organization of the 4th Hessian State Garden Show 2010. It thus serves to update and update the previous park maintenance work and incorporates the analog and digital bases as well as other current findings.
The defined processing area does not correspond to the area of the historic spa gardens, but excludes the areas of the Sprudelhof, the Max Planck Institute and the colonnades as well as those of the Kurhaus and the Hotel 'Dolce'. Including the two areas south of Parkstraße at the Trinkkuranlage and the Gradierbau with the municipal library, the entire processing area covers approximately 30 ha.
In addition to the consideration of the monument value and the existing stock, special attention was paid to the statements on the sustainable care and maintenance of the parks and the compatible integration of the different uses and ecological aspects.
