The city of Frankfurt (Oder) is planning the reconstruction of the open spaces 'Grüner Weg' on the area bounded by Karl-Sobkowski-Straße and Grünen Weg, as part of the redevelopment, restoration and development with apartment buildings.
In addition to the renaturation of the Klingefließ and a new planning for the area of the former playground, the main axis between Berg- and Karl-Sobkowski-Straße will be reconstructed in a third part.
The housing estate on Grüner Weg comprises the streets Karl-Sobkowski-Straße (formerly Elisabethstraße), Bergstraße and Grüner Weg and was built at the beginning of the 1920s in the valley of the Klingebach. According to plans by Martin Kießling, the complex was built in the period 1922-24 for the officials of the Reichsbahndirektion Osten.
Due to the high vacancy rate of the buildings, the outdoor facilities are also in a very overgrown condition, in which the original design is only fragmentarily preserved. In particular, the exterior walls and stairways are very dilapidated and in need of extensive renovation. In addition, the main path is only barely recognizable; the linden trees planted in rows are only partially present.
The planning for the main axis envisages a monumental reconstruction of the original inventory. To this end, the garages will first be demolished and the open areas cleared. The existing rows of lime trees will be supplemented, large lawns will be laid out and bordered with hedges. The path system will be renewed both along the pedestrian path of the main axis and in the area of Karl-Sobkowski-Straße. The small adjoining green area will be restored to its original condition. Exterior walls and stairways as well as the fountain with monument will be renovated in accordance with the historic photos.
