The Rebdorf Monastery, located at the gates of the Episcopal seat of Eichstätt on the Altmühl River, was founded in 1156 as an Augustinian canons' monastery.
The medieval monastery complex, which was rebuilt and expanded in the Baroque period, has been used as a boys' secondary school with boarding school since 1958. Since 2007, after the closure of the boarding school, the entire monastery area is being extensively renovated under the sponsorship of the Diocese of Eichstätt, two ecclesiastical secondary schools are to be merged here.
In this context, several new buildings were constructed: a new classroom wing, an administration building with refectory and a triple gymnasium with extension of the school sports facility. A central bus stop with archives underneath was already completed in 2012.
The design of the surrounding area of the archive building was the first step in the implementation of the open spaces, which were redesigned for the entire monastery complex. As a second building block, the new construction of the large schoolyard was created in 2013, and the redesign of the Gabrielihof took place in 2014. A third schoolyard in connection with the new construction of specialist rooms as well as open spaces in the vicinity of the newly constructed triple gymnasium were completed in 2018. Further steps include the redesign of the sports facilities and the redesign of the church surroundings.
In addition to dealing with this historical environment, the topographical location in particular - a height difference of around 10 m has to be overcome - is an important planning component in connection with the use.
