Atlantis has resurfaced. In the World of Continents at the IGS 2013 in Hamburg, the mythical city-state of ancient Greece served as inspiration for a playground with a special atmosphere.
From the sandy beach, where the remains of ancient buildings are scattered, a path leads up to a vantage point framed by columnar trembling poplars. The play of light and reflections characterizes this playground. A grotto under the hill is characterized by optical effects, reminiscent of the treasure chambers of Atlantis.
A too literal interpretation of the motif was avoided, so ruins and grotto are made of concrete pipes, which get a fragile character by breaking the edges. Exciting light falls into the tunnel system of the grotto through portholes filled with reflective and refractive materials.
The playground Atlantis is free of specifications, crawling through the various pipes, the generous sand area and various resting and retreat possibilities offer incentives for individual appropriation by children from 3 to 6 years.
