On the site of the former Flötzinger Wiese in Rosenheim, a large curative education center for physically and mentally handicapped children and adolescents (ages from nursery to vocational school) was built.
The open space planning presented several interesting challenges:
All open spaces must of course be barrier-free and designed to suit the special users. The entire site is also located in the flood impact area of the Mangfall. In order to get any floods under control in terms of drainage, a flood ditch had to be constructed around the building, which also had to meet high design standards. Finally, the HPZ site is located as an integrative element on the overall site of the Erlenau school centre. At many points, such as the Ledererbach, the primary school or the Gabor sports hall, the open spaces had to be adapted to the existing buildings.
The entire site integrates several functions: A generous entry and entrance situation with a work of art, a break yard with play facilities, class terraces, inner courtyards, garden area with flower beds and fountains as well as all necessary sports facilities grass playing field, running track, all-weather pitch).
The break yard and the sports facilities form an effective unit in the centre of the new building as a "green band" in 7 different colour shades. The different mounds of EPDM surfacing are particularly popular with wheelchair users.
The flood ditch with elaborate gabion shoring is no longer purely technical, but a visually and ecologically diverse experience space. It first runs around the building in a strictly architectural manner and then flows into the near-natural streambed of the Ledererbach.
The six small inner courtyards provide places of retreat. Learning and playing outdoors is also possible in summer under extensive shading systems.
