The kindergarten was built in the middle of a newly created residential area and is located on the north-eastern outskirts of Munich, on the edge of the so-called 'Panzerwiese', a meagre meadow. The clear structure of the building is continued in the outdoor facilities: The play areas, each with a different content, are located in front of the three group rooms of the kindergarten. The play areas, lined up like a band, begin in the south with a 'bird's nest swing', which offers space for several children at the same time. This is followed by a grass play area that invites the children to romp and linger. In front of the third group room there is a sand building site with a building scaffold for the smaller children. Finally, the end of this band is formed by a play landscape which combines various pieces of equipment and which - equally usable for kindergarten and after-school children - encourages climbing, sliding, crawling or balancing. Willow tunnels and labyrinths allow for retreats and provide cooling shade in the summer.
A toboggan hill also provides fun in the winter. Generous slab areas with child-friendly ashlar seating walls and sunshades connect the group rooms with the play areas and also serve as terraces. In cooperation with an artist an art object could be realized. Unplanted (vegetable) beds leave room for observation and possibilities for experimentation.
The slope areas planted with rock carnations underline the location of the original natural area (rough grassland) and symbolise the name of the day care centre: 'Felsennelkenanger'.
