The planning task consisted in the design of the school open space at the newly constructed school building of the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß secondary school in Pirna-Sonnenstein. The close relationship of the new school building to the existing gymnasium is further developed by the geometry of the access area and the schoolyard in the open spaces. The division of the space is oriented towards the new school building and thus naturally blends in with it.
The access runs orthogonally to the main entrance of the school and allows a short connection between Struppener Street and the building.
The schoolyard adjoins the school building in an easterly direction and is overlaid with the existing trees and shrubs to form a design unit. Along the dividing line between the schoolyard and the green area, a bench made of concrete elements has been erected, which, as a "long bench", offers pupils the opportunity to sit and talk. The surfaces were paved with asphalt, the appearance of which was softened by the application of coloured stripes. The existing trees and shrubs were loosely planted so that the areas remain low-maintenance and can also be walked on by the children.
