Contribution to the urban redevelopment measure in the old town of Hammelburg for the redesign of open spaces and traffic facilities as well as the renewal of the city lighting. The restructuring of the spatial profile (zoning) was carried out as a mixed traffic area developed at the same level with the formation of specific stay and movement qualities for all road users and altogether more generous areas for pedestrians. Integration rather than prioritisation of traffic was given the highest priority.
The restructuring of these spaces ultimately provided scope for design considerations in terms of material, form, use and atmosphere. A uniform material and equipment concept for all street and square spaces puts the spatial sequences back into an overall context and links the individual areas with each other.
In addition to the redesign of the city ground, the plaza design of the former cattle market was upgraded to increase the quality of stay and diversity of use with newly developed water play and bench elements that were adapted to the location. The energy-efficient renewal of the city lighting system and a restrained use of plants rounds off the overall concept and brings the medieval charm of the old town back to life.
