With an area of approx. 21 ha, the historic castle park is the largest park in the city of Neuwied. It is characterised both by its special location along the banks of the Rhine and by its design in the style of an English landscape park.
Since 1973, the approx. 15 ha 'Lower Castle Park' has been leased to the town of Neuwied and has since been open to the public, while the part of the park bordering the castle is still used privately by the princely family.
The aim of the park maintenance work commissioned by the Neuwied town council was to document and evaluate the development of the castle park over time, to present the current state of the park and to develop an objective with concrete measures, which should form the basis for the restoration and further development of the park. The planned measures were to highlight the historical quality of the park and convey it to the public. Special attention was also paid to statements on the sustainable care and maintenance of the park.
